The Way You Left

The way your words felt careful,
like they carried too much weight
to be spoken whole,
shattered syllables dropping between us
like unspoken farewells.

The way your touch felt lighter,
a ghost of what it once was,
as though your fingers feared
the permanence of skin.

The way your eyes looked away,
carrying secrets too heavy
for us both to bear,
the silence between us a river
I couldn’t cross.

The way you stood back,
your body hesitating,
a statue caught in indecision,
each inch between us
a story of something breaking.

And the way you looked back,
a fragment of regret etched
into the corners of your face,
your shadow still lingering,
even as your love faded,
leaving me behind
with the ache of what could have been.
